How to upload your livestock

Use your livestock manager for supply chain transparency

One: Export your livestock data

Go to your livestock management platform (CTS Online, EID Cymru, ScotEID, AgriWebb, etc.) Download a list of the livestock on your holding in a CSV or Excel format. Ensure that 'historic animals' are not shown, and that you have selected all livestock for your holding if your list crosses multiple pages.

Two: Edit your data

If you manage your cattle with the British Cattle Movement Service using CTS Online or AgriWebb, you will need to edit your export. For all other management systems, you can move on to step three.

For AgriWebb

AgriWebb can export date of birth in words, not numbers. Edit in the following format: dd/mm/yyyy. Then save as a CSV or Excel file and move on to step three.

Add a header row and label your data (optional)

We need to know the animal ID, breed, sex, and date of birth. You can add a header row above your data and label your columns appropriately. Or, skip this step and the value from the first row will show when you come to the 'map columns' stage.

Remove any rows that show anomalies

The import requires only one row for each animal. Delete the additional rows the BCMS export has added including duplicated animals rows and any aggregated values.

Remove any columns you don't need (optional)

Delete any columns that contain surplus information, or that contain errors.

Save as a CSV or Excel file

Three: Import your data

Log into your personal dashboard

Click the person icon in the top right corner of our website.

Select 'Your Livestock'

From the left hand navigation of your personal dashboard.

Add livestock

Click the purple 'add livestock' button. You can either add an individual animal (by selecting 'create'), or 'import from file.' Click 'import from file' and drag and drop the CSV or Excel file you saved earlier. If you have a header row in your file, make sure the 'check the box if the file you are importing has a header row' tickbox is selected.

Map your data

Match the column titles from your file with our fields. We need the individual ID, breed, sex, and date of birth. Click 'next step' and match the values in your rows with our fields. Click 'next step', review your data, then click 'import.' At this stage, any errors will be flagged. If an error occurs, you can go back to the 'previous step' and delete any livestock that has flagged the error, or restart the process to upload a new file.

Four: Manage your livestock

The table in the 'your livestock' section lists all of your animals; by default it shows the animals you have on farm.

You can search for a specific animal by using the search box or filter the table by status (to show animals no longer on your farm), by species, and by sex.

Select animals by clicking on the checkboxes. Alternatively, use the "bulk select" options to either select animals used in a previous action or select animals by importing a file of animal IDs.

Once at least one animal is selected, you can perform actions on them by clicking the "create action" button.
